Descriptions:
1. The bench that Kelsey is sitting on creates leading lines. The orange shawl has texture. The slow shutter speed used when shooting the picture creates a sense of motion and blur. The photo is out of focus on Kelsey, but in focus for the rest of the picture. The photo's meaning is that she is leaving her old self behind when she leaves her shawl.
2. The strings of the violin serve as leading lines that take your eyes from left to right across the picture. The black background effectively creates a negative space, and makes the orange violin pop out as the positive space. The bright orange color of the violin is a winning aspect of this photo, contrasting to the black background. The lighting on the violin is bright and gleaming. This photo has an interesting point of view because the violin is not standing up straight, but instead it is on its side.
3. This photo uses the rule of thirds well. The picture is split up into three parts horizontally, the black ground, the island itself, and the bright sky. This photograph also includes positive and negative space, because of the contrast between the dark land masses and the bright sunset sky.
4. This picture focuses on the textures of the rose, book, heel and cloth. Each have a different texture. Each item in the composition unexpectantly follows a theme. They are all seemingly old and from another time. The items bring me back to the 1800's.
5. The unusual subject matter of this picture is the real focus of the photo. The tiny men are humorous and create a happy mood. The bright coloring of the puff balls also plays a role in the mood of the photo.
6. The reflection creates a compelling subject matter. The coloring of the picture is blue tinted and this adds to the composition. The shape of the desk paired with the reflection creates a sense of positive and negative space.
7. This photo uses depth of field. The truck on the road behind the man is in the background, and the man and the smoke are in the foreground. The man is smiling and that is an interesting subject matter within the photo, because it seems odd that a stranger would smile and be so willing to be photographed.
8.
9. The winning aspect of this photo is the light. The light shining through the window is a beautiful glow falling onto the table and onto the man's hands in beams of light. The small plant is very green because it is backlit by the morning light. The set up of the composition are perfectly unposed, the cereal and newspaper showing this man's usual morning routine and the beauty of it.
10. This is one of my personal favorite pictures from the field trip. Although it does not showcase the town of somerset or its history, I love the picture itself. The photo has shallow depth of field, focusing on the light and leaving the foggy background as a blur.
11. The positive and negative space is a great aspect to this photo. The fog hides the water completely, and you cannot even see a ripple. The rocks create a sharp line of contrast, and the viewer's eyes are drawn to the two black hearts on a rock. These hearts are the focal point of the image.
12. The clear focus of this picture is the delicate curve of the railing. The rough rusty railing is changed into delicacy by the soft curve shape. The background of the picture also gives a feeling of softness, because of the color and the apparent texture.
