This photograph is of Katherine Heigl. This photo was taken by the photographer Sam Jones. He shots a lot of famous people's portraits. She is a famous actress who played on the television show Grey's Anatomy. The girl is the focal point of photo. The picture is shot vertically. She is seated on a fancy couch and leaning forward towards the camera. The photographer created a sense of foreground middle ground and background. The foreground is the girl, the middle ground is the couch, and the background is the wall behind her. The viewer's eye is lead through the piece starting at the girl's face and ending at the wall behind her. She has a slight tilt to her head and the light is coming from her right. This light creates a small shadow on her left side. The camera is pointed straight on at her. The photo is in black and white. Her facial expression is mysterious and it makes the viewer wonder what she is thinking. I think her gaze is the most successful part of the photo.
My photograph was taken of Molly Davis. She looks just like Katherine and has the same color skin tone and hair. To recreate Jones' photo I had Molly dress in similar clothes and had the same style background. The picture is also in black and white like the original portrait. I tried to create a sense of foreground middle ground background in my picture, but it was hard to make a middle ground. Her head is slightly tilted like Katherine's was in the other picture. Her arm and hand placement is the same and she wears a ring just like Katherine. The light is coming from her left in this photo recreation, but the effect is similar because one side of her face is covered in shadows. The viewers first glance at the picture is at her eyes. She has an odd look to her eyes that compels the viewer to want to know her thoughts. Her gaze is an important part of this photo emulation.
